Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House

September 2nd, 2008 · 2 Comments

On Saturday night, which happened to be my birthday, Lizzie had wanted to take a drive…she was aiming for the shore. I talked her into settling for the Dover Downs, which we have wanted to review for some time. It wasn’t Atlantic City, but it was a nice time any way. Taking about 1.5 hrs from our house, the Dove Downs is not too long of a drive.
Upon arriving at the downs, it was just about 7pm, so we noticed the Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House and decided to check it out.
Our waitress, who happens to have just graduated from a culinary school, was very helpful, and could not speak high enough of the owner, who she said was 34 and had 11 Oyster Houses so far.
Sadly, I forgot to bring my camera, but Lizzie did have her Blackberry(still trying to get photos off if it) so I was unable to make a movie, so you’ll have to settle for the review video I did the following morning.

We started out with coconut fried shrimp for Lizzie and a half dozen assorted oysters for me. Lizzie is a bit squeamish, so she does not eat oysters. I on the other hand loved them. In particular I love the ones that had a melon after taste…but truly they were all great.
For our main course, I had the Southern Fried Flounder, and Lizzie had their famous Crab Cakes, which she says have to be the best of 2008, but are not better than the Crab Cakes from Bar Harbor Hotel which were the best for 2007.

Our Recommendations

Doc Magrogan’s gets a thumbs up from both Lizzie and I. We had a good time, and will have to check out the West Chester Doc Magrogan’s.

There’s a beautiful oyster house in Scotland near to where my dad comes from. I’ve only been in twice and each time they’ve not had any oysters. How ironic is that?!

Yea, you got to hate that..I suppose sometimes they are hard to find. We were recently in OBX and had some delicious oysters at a restaurant, and then several nights later we went to the same restaurant and they had no more oysters…so I guess sometimes it is the case of being at the right place at the right time.
