March 20th, 2008Yocco’s Hot Dogs

The Hot Dogs of the Lehigh Valley are probably one of the things that I miss most about living in the Lehigh Valley. One of my favorite “Hot Dog Joints” has to be Yoccos. A “Yocco’s Hot Dog” is a well done hot dog with mustard, onions, Yocco’s chili and a steamed roll. I made a video the other day when I went through the Yocco’s drive-thru on my way home from an appointment.

Yocco’s has some other equally unhealthy food items, but of all the items the Yocco’s Hot Dogs are my favorite.
Yocco’s Dogs may not be slaw dogs, but every now and then, a couple of these delicious little hot dogs hit the spot.

Lizzie and I went to CD’s for lunch, and I made this “slaw dog” video, which I had been wanting to make for some time. I am a bit disappointed in the video, as the slaw dog was out of the screen when I was examining it. But nevertheless, the slaw dogs were really tasty.

The Boyertown Bears Den, is one of our favorite Boyertown restaurants. The Cheese Steaks are so good that Lizzie and I would love to have them at least once a week. I last reviewed the Bears Dens Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwiches, which I still also recommend if ham n cheese is your favorite type of hoagie.

Below is a little video I made when we went and picked up a Cheese Steak for lunch. I would have taken a longer video but there were other patrons enjoying their lunch, and I really don’t like taping when others are trying to eat.

If you get a Chance to enjoy the food at the Bears Den, let them know you read about them on Thegrubhound.
Where are the best sandwiches you have had?

February 6th, 2008Fastnachts from Rt 100 Deli

Did you get your fastnachts?

Today was Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent begins. Here in Boyertown there are any number of places you can get them to include the local grocery stores. But the best ones I am told are from The RT 100 Deli. Lizzie and I were driving back home from a business meeting in Fogelsville, and we decided to stop.

Crab Cake Sandwich

The RT 100 Deli, is a small little place that you would probably pass if you were not paying attention. From the few times that I have been in to the deli, I can say it does seem to have some quality sandwiches and such.

January 30th, 2008White House Submarines

One last Atlantic City Dining post in this series needs to be done for White House Sub Shop, which we found while cruising around on our own.
White House Sub Shop

The White House is a cool looking vintage establishment that has been serving sandwiches since the 1946 to customers of all sorts including Frank Sinatra and the Beatles to name just a few.
Formica Bros Bakery Sign

Sandwich orders can be called in ahead, and this is what I recommend during peak business hours. You can also stop in and take a number for take out, or wait in line to be seated.
Bread is delivered fresh 12 times a day from the legendary Formica Bros Bakery, which is right across the road, so the rolls are guaranteed to be fresh.

Full size subs are about 2 feet long and so mouth wateringly good. Just writing this post, I am getting the urge for a road trip for a White House Sub.
After eating at White House, we were shopping at the Old Navy Outlet store, and a local girl, stopped us and asked us if we had just eaten at the White House, because she could smell the hoagies on us.
For another review of the White House Sub shop that has some mouth wateringly good photos, check out the RoadFood Review.

January 8th, 2008Eve’s Lunch is Open

Eve's LunchEve’s Lunch is now open after being closed for about 6 months. They are at their new location of 310 East Johnson Highway, Norristown.

I must warn you so you don’t do the same as I did and let your Zep dry out. Wrap your Zep up in something other than the paper it comes in if the sandwich will be stored over night.

If you get a chance stop at Eve’s Lunch and get Eve’s famous Zep tell them thegrubhound sent you.
Oh, bring cash, as Eve’s does not take credit cards.

December 21st, 2007Moccia’s Train Stop

This was taken on one of our trips to Moccia’s Train Stop. Moccia’s has great food, especially their sandwiches such as their Zep.

Stop in early as the line at Moccia’s can be quite long, although, the wait is well worth it. As good as Eve’s Lunch Zeps or a close second.

Tuna on a Conshohocken Italian Bakery Roll

I had an interview at Unreal Marketing last week. Thankfully, I didn’t get the position because upon entering the office area, I really started to feel very uneasy. Must have been the bad Feng Shui of all the office workers in their cubicles.

Anyway, after the interview was over, I went in search of the Conshohocken Italian Bakery for bread. I first ended up going to an Italian eatery where I ordered three sandwiches(crab cake sandwich, a hoagie, and a chicken sandwich) since they used the Conshy bakery for their rolls.
Lizzie tells me that if the sandwiches are any good, they get their bread from the Conshy bakery.

Grilled Ham n Cheese

After posting yesterday about the Sandwiches at both Moccia’s Train Stop and the best sandwiches in Kutztown, I had to have a sub, so I called up the Boyertown Bears Den and ordered up a couple of sandwiches for dinner.Lizzie had the 9 inch tuna, and I ordered this grilled ham and cheese with a 5 piece side order of hot wings. The great Conshohocken like rolls make these sandwiches ttrue Philly hoagies.
Not only does the Bears Den have some great food, it also is a nice place for the locals to hang out after the game. Named after the Boyertown mascot, the restaurant has lots of Boyertown sports memorabilia. I especially like the way the bathrooms are made into bears dens with murals on the walls.
So if you get to Boyertown, and your craving a Philly Cheese steak or a great hoagie, stop in at the Bears Den.

November 14th, 2007Moccia’s Train Stop Menu

Moccia's Train Stop Menu

Last Wednesday, we had a craving for Zeps from Eve’s Lunch, and after calling and finding out that Eve’s is still closed, we decided to head out to Moccia’s (pronounced mow-shaz) Train Stop.

Moccia’s has really good food to include their Zep’s. Lizzie ordered a Zep, I ordered an Italian. Both sandwiches were about 20″ each, so neither of us was able to eat more than a quarter of either sandwich. Which was great because, I love leftovers.
For great Italian food in the Delphi Junction, some great sandwiches, and the model trains, stop in at Moccia’s Train Stop.

Update:
I made a video of Moccias Menu, which can be stopped and started easily enough so that the entire menu can be viewed.
