Formerly Known as the William Penn Lodge during the 1800’s this building located at 120-122 East Philadelphia Avenue was a popular local stop for travelers. Circa 1890 the hotel acquired a new owner and its name was changed to The Old Mansion House. Local residents were treated to a fine meal before attending the evening entertainment at the Opera house, Located just a few doors away.

During the prohibition years , The Old Mansion House gained a reputation of infamy serving drinks to privileged guests downstairs in the basement. There are Even remnants of an escape tunnel that at one time ran under the adjacent railroad tracks. The specialty of the house was lobster, and lots of them. Every weekend lobsters arrived by the trainload via the adjacent tracks and were stored in large crates in the basement.

Many years have gone by and The Old Mansion House is alive and well with nostalgia. Following a change in ownership and a face-lift, this historic building now known as Durango’s Restaurant & Saloon, will continue to proudly serve local residents and guests.

Durango’s Restaurant & Saloon is located at 120 East Philadelphia Ave. Boyertown, Pa 10512 #610-473-9444
